**Vellore, February 23, 2025** – Ariyur police in Vellore have seized 13 logs of beefwood, weighing approximately 500 kilograms, from a modified SUV during a routine vehicle check. The incident occurred near a police checkpost in Ariyur village.
Three individuals abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene upon noticing the police. A subsequent search revealed the beefwood logs concealed beneath a metal sheet in the vehicle’s modified rear compartment. Forest officials confirmed the wood’s identity, suggesting the smugglers may have mistaken it for the more valuable red sanders. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
