**Raipur, February 23, 2025** – The Chhattisgarh government has announced a significant overhaul of its Shops and Establishments Act, allowing businesses to operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The move, effective immediately, aims to boost the state’s economy and create employment opportunities.
The new legislation removes the previous mandatory weekly closure day for shops, granting traders greater operational flexibility. However, the government clarified that this exemption does not apply to liquor stores.
To protect worker rights, the new rules mandate a weekly day off for all employees and limit working hours to eight hours per day. All shop owners are also required to comply with existing labor welfare schemes.
Existing registered shops have six months to obtain a Labor Identification Number (LIN) free of charge. A fee will apply for applications submitted after this deadline. The simplified registration process is intended to further streamline business operations. The government statement emphasized its commitment to both economic growth and the well-being of its workforce.
