Sat Feb 22 20:10:02 UTC 2025: ## Delhi University’s Convocation Highlights Funding Promise for Affiliated Colleges

**New Delhi, February 23, 2025** – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the 101st annual convocation of Delhi University (DU) on Saturday, assuring that the funding crisis affecting 12 Delhi government-funded affiliated colleges will soon be resolved following the BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Pradhan stated that the issue would be resolved within months, offering reassurance to the colleges. This follows a 2023 letter from then-Delhi Education Minister Atishi, highlighting “serious irregularities” in the colleges’ funding and suggesting either disaffiliation or full central government funding. DU had previously rejected disaffiliation as legally unjustifiable and detrimental to students and staff.

The convocation ceremony saw 623 PhD degrees and 83,902 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees awarded. Pradhan also celebrated the appointment of BJP MLA-elect Rekha Gupta, a DU alumna, as Delhi’s Chief Minister. He lauded DU’s role as a leader in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing its contribution to achieving a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India).
