Sun Feb 23 16:29:15 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Congress Leaders Spar Over Chief Minister’s Future Amidst Delhi Trip

**Bengaluru, February 24, 2025** – Despite recent intervention from the Congress high command, public debate continues over a potential change in Karnataka’s Chief Ministership. The ongoing discussion follows planned Delhi meetings by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, where he is expected to address public statements made by senior Cabinet ministers.

Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, firmly denied any leadership change, stating that the high command has already decided the matter. However, Channagiri Congress leader Shivaganga Basavaraj, a supporter of Shivakumar, urged senior party members to refrain from public discussion on the issue, highlighting the high command’s directive against airing opinions publicly. He specifically criticized Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna’s recent comments advocating a leadership change.

Mahadevappa confirmed that the All India Congress Committee president, Mallikarjun Kharge, has instructed state leaders to avoid public statements that could embarrass the party. While acknowledging the freedom to express opinions, he emphasized the importance of discussing such matters internally and maintaining party discipline.

Addressing speculation about Siddaramaiah potentially surpassing the late D. Devaraj Urs’ record as the longest-serving Chief Minister, Mahadevappa stated that records are meant to be broken and the focus should remain on development and welfare. He also commented on the calls for a Dalit Chief Minister, stating that while such a wish is understandable and aligned with the vision of B.R. Ambedkar, its realization depends on future circumstances and public support.
