**Baltimore, MD** – A team of six University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) faculty and administrators returned from India with significant strides in international collaboration following their participation in the “PIWOT – World of Technology” conference in Mumbai. The late January conference, organized by the alumni association of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), drew leading figures from the global science and technology community.
UMBC’s delegation, including acting Dean Anupam Joshi, several professors, and the university’s senior international officer, showcased the university’s research and capabilities at a well-attended booth in the expo hall. A highlight was the display of a low-cost infant incubator developed by Professor Govind Rao.
Beyond the conference, the UMBC team visited IIT campuses in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Tirupati to explore potential institutional partnerships, paving the way for future faculty and student exchanges. Dean Joshi also participated in a panel discussion on technology’s impact on education.
The conference itself focused on technology’s broad influence, and UMBC’s presence served to strengthen its international profile and build relationships with key players in the Indian technology sector. The initiative is expected to lead to increased research collaborations and student mobility between UMBC and prestigious Indian institutions.
