**VISAKHAPATNAM, February 22, 2025** – Activists and schoolchildren in Visakhapatnam commemorated International Mother Language Day on Friday with a tribute to the Telugu language. The event, held near the Telugu Thalli statue at Maddilapalem Junction, featured songs and poems performed by students from GVMC Primary School and School of Wonder Kids.
Organized by Telugu Dandu, an organization promoting the Telugu language, the event honored the memory of Bangladeshi students who sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue. Telugu Dandu president Paravasthu Suri emphasized the importance of preserving and upholding the Telugu language, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices made in Bangladesh. Several Telugu language enthusiasts also participated in the tribute. The event highlighted the significance of International Mother Language Day, observed annually since 2000 at the suggestion of UNESCO.
