**Hyderabad, February 22, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy following a serious accident at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district. The incident, which occurred Saturday morning, involved a partial tunnel collapse, trapping eight workers.
According to reports, a three-meter section of the tunnel’s ceiling caved in at the 14th kilometer of the project. Three workers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Authorities are currently assessing the situation and rescue efforts are underway.
Chief Minister Reddy briefed Prime Minister Modi on the incident, detailing the rescue operation and the deployment of resources. Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao are overseeing the rescue efforts on the ground. The Prime Minister assured Reddy of full central government support and promised to immediately dispatch an NDRF team to assist.
The SLBC tunnel project, recently accelerated by the Telangana government, aims to provide irrigation and drinking water to Nalgonda district. Work on this section began just four days prior to the collapse. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.
