**Nagapattinam, India (February 22, 2025)** – The passenger ferry service connecting Nagapattinam, India, and Kankesanthurai, Sri Lanka, resumed operations today after a temporary suspension due to inclement weather. The ferry, carrying 83 passengers from Nagapattinam, completed a successful round trip, bringing back 85 passengers from Sri Lanka.

The service, initially launched in August 2024, had been temporarily halted due to adverse weather and pending technical clearances. These issues have now been resolved, allowing the resumption of the vital link between the two countries.

To incentivize ridership, the ferry operator has adjusted ticket prices. A one-way ticket now costs ₹4,250, while a round-trip ticket is ₹8,500. Passengers receive complimentary meals and can carry up to 10 kg of luggage free of charge. Excess baggage will incur a fee of ₹50 per kilogram.

Subashree Sundararaj, Director of the ferry service operator, stated that the initiative aims to bolster India-Sri Lanka relations and enhance regional connectivity. The service’s relaunch is expected to be warmly received by travelers on both sides of the Palk Strait.
