Sat Feb 22 08:47:13 UTC 2025: ## NSW Breakers’ WNCL Final Hopes Hang in the Balance After Rain-Affected Win
**Sydney, NSW –** The NSW Breakers have secured a rain-affected victory over the ACT Meteors, keeping their Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) finals hopes alive. However, their progression to the decider hinges on the result of another match.
The Breakers chased down a revised target of 122, reaching 2-140 in 29 overs before rain halted play. After a delay, they needed only three runs from 12 balls to secure an eight-wicket win via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. This victory propelled them to second place on the ladder with 33 points.
However, their final spot is not guaranteed. Third-placed South Australia (30 points) are currently chasing 255 against Western Australia. A South Australian victory would take them to 34 points, leapfrogging the Breakers and securing their place in the final against Queensland.
The Breakers’ win also eliminated Tasmania from contention, regardless of their ongoing match against Victoria.
Nineteen-year-old Grace Lyons starred for the Meteors with a near-century (97), her highest WNCL score, forming a crucial 119-run partnership with Shivani Mehta (53). NSW’s bowling attack was led by Hannah Darlington (2-25) and Sammy-Jo Johnson (2-35), who achieved her 100th WNCL wicket. Elsa Hunter (42) and Tahlia Wilson (38) provided a strong start to the Breakers’ chase, with Anika Learoyd and Georgia Adams finishing the job.
The Breakers now face an anxious wait, with their WNCL final hopes resting solely on the outcome of the South Australia versus Western Australia match.
