Fri Feb 21 18:01:08 UTC 2025: ## Indian Railways Clarifies Request for Removal of Stampede Videos

**NEW DELHI, February 21, 2025** – The Indian Railway Ministry today issued a clarification regarding social media posts alleging it demanded the removal of all videos related to the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. A spokesperson for the railways stated on X (formerly Twitter) that only sensitive content and disturbing images were requested for removal. This action, the spokesperson explained, was taken to uphold the dignity of the victims, particularly women, and to avoid causing further distress to grieving families. Several family members of those affected had previously requested the ministry’s intervention, citing the disrespectful and traumatizing nature of some of the circulated footage.

The clarification comes in the wake of a deadly stampede on platform 14 of New Delhi Railway Station, resulting in 18 deaths and numerous injuries. The stampede, reportedly caused by confusion over announcements for two Prayagraj-bound trains, claimed 15 lives due to traumatic asphyxia, two due to hemorrhagic shock, and one due to head injuries, according to post-mortem reports.

In a related development, the railways announced the establishment of holding areas at several stations across the Northern and North Eastern Railways. This initiative, implemented in anticipation of a large influx of pilgrims for the Maha Kumbh festival, aims to improve crowd management and enhance passenger safety, particularly during peak travel periods. Designated holding areas have been created in major stations including Ghaziabad, Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Ayodhya Dham, Banaras, Siwan, Ballia, Deoria, Chhapra, and Gorakhpur.
