Sat Feb 22 15:27:40 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Gupta Takes Reins in Delhi, Maintaining Kejriwal’s Ambedkar-Bhagat Singh Legacy
**New Delhi** – Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), began her tenure with a symbolic gesture, performing aarti at the Yamuna river bank with her cabinet, underscoring the party’s commitment to cleaning the river. However, a surprising detail emerged from the Chief Minister’s office.
The office retains portraits of B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, a decision made by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in January 2022, replacing those of politicians. This move, originally implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), remains unchanged, a detail likely to be viewed favorably by the AAP.
Gupta was sworn in at Ramlila Maidan and subsequently took her seat at the Delhi Secretariat, where the Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh portraits were clearly visible behind her chair.
The new BJP government also faces immediate challenges. The Delhi Assembly will convene on February 24th, with the newly elected MLAs taking their oaths. The election of the Speaker will follow, and Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena will address the House on February 25th, presenting the long-awaited CAG report on the AAP’s financial and administrative performance, a subject expected to generate considerable political debate between the two parties. Arvinder Singh Lovely, BJP MLA, has been appointed Protem Speaker. The report’s presentation is likely to be a focal point of political sparring between the BJP and the AAP. The Delhi government will also address matters such as the Mohalla Clinics and free bus rides.
