**Dubai, UAE –** 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva pulled off a major upset at the Dubai Championships on Thursday, defeating world No. 2 Iga Swiatek 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. This marks Andreeva’s fifth victory over a top-10 player and her second win against a world No. 2, following her triumph over Aryna Sabalenka at last year’s French Open. The win also makes Andreeva the youngest semifinalist in the tournament’s 24-year history.

Swiatek, who had previously defeated Andreeva in Cincinnati last August, acknowledged her opponent’s aggressive play. Andreeva herself attributed her success to maintaining an aggressive strategy, building on her previous strong performance against Swiatek.

Andreeva will face sixth-seeded Elena Rybakina in the semifinals, after Rybakina’s win over Sofia Kenin. The other semifinal will see Clara Tauson, who eliminated Aryna Sabalenka earlier this week, play Karolina Muchova.
