Thu Feb 20 20:30:00 UTC 2025: **Former Senator Kelly Loeffler Confirmed as SBA Administrator Despite Democratic Opposition**

WASHINGTON — Kelly Loeffler, former U.S. Senator for Georgia, has been confirmed as the new administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA). The Senate vote was a narrow 52-46, with only one Democrat, Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada, crossing party lines to support her confirmation. Georgia’s Democratic Senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, both voted against Loeffler.

Loeffler’s close ties to former President Donald Trump fueled Democratic opposition. Senator Ossoff cited a preference for a nonpartisan SBA administrator, while Senator Warnock expressed concerns about Loeffler’s potential to hinder programs benefiting Georgia’s small businesses. Loeffler, in a statement, expressed gratitude to President Trump and emphasized her commitment to advancing his “America First” agenda.

Prior to her Senate appointment by Governor Brian Kemp in 2019, Loeffler held a senior executive position at Intercontinental Exchange. Her support for Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results also played a role in the contentious confirmation process. Despite this, she and her husband, Jeff Sprecher, significantly contributed to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Loeffler is expected to assume her new role immediately.
