**Srinagar, February 21, 2025** – National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah issued a fervent appeal on Thursday, urging the people of the region to safeguard Urdu and Kashmiri for future generations. Speaking on Mother Language Day, Dr. Abdullah emphasized that preserving these languages is crucial for maintaining the region’s unique identity and cultural heritage, known as Kashmiriyat.
He highlighted that the vitality of a nation hinges on its ability to protect its civilization, culture, and languages. Dr. Abdullah stressed the importance of personal responsibility in preserving all languages spoken across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, including Urdu.
The NC leader expressed concern over what he termed “hostile elements” attempting to undermine Urdu and Kashmiri by falsely characterizing them as regional or religious languages. He called on the people to actively resist these efforts and ensure the transmission of these languages to future generations. He warned that neglecting language and culture leads to the eventual decline of a nation.
