Fri Feb 21 14:20:11 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Awaits 100 Electric Buses: Delivery Uncertain for 2025

**COIMBATORE, February 21, 2025** – The arrival of 100 electric buses promised to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Coimbatore Ltd. by the state government remains uncertain for 2025. While public anticipation is high, fueled by the popularity of private electric bus services like NeuGo, the actual deployment of these vehicles is still pending.

According to sources, the TNSTC anticipates strong ridership due to potential competitive pricing enabled by tax concessions. The new buses, boasting a 300km range on a single charge, could potentially service routes to Tiruchi, Madurai, and even destinations in Karnataka and Kerala.

This initiative aligns with the National Electric Bus Programme (NEBP), aiming for 50,000 electric buses nationwide by 2027. Furthermore, the Central government’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) scheme offers financial aid to State Transport Undertakings (STUs) to improve public transport.

However, a trade union representative expressed concern over the slow progress of Tamil Nadu’s plan to procure 500 electric buses. They urged the state government to expedite the process and fully utilize the PM E-Drive Scheme, which runs until March 31, 2026. The current uncertainty casts doubt on whether Coimbatore will see its electric bus fleet expanded this year.
