Fri Feb 21 08:43:54 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court Seeks Response from Maharashtra and Assam Governments on YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani’s Plea**

NEW DELHI, February 21, 2025 – The Supreme Court of India has sought a response from the Maharashtra and Assam governments regarding a plea filed by YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani. Chanchlani is seeking to quash or transfer an FIR registered against him in Guwahati, Assam, accusing him of promoting obscenity in an online show.

The court issued a notice and tagged Chanchlani’s plea with a similar pending petition from influencer Ranveer Allahbadia. While Chanchlani has already been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court, his legal team argues against the filing of multiple FIRs related to the same show.

The FIR, filed in Guwahati on February 10th, cites various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS), Information Technology Act, Cinematograph Act, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The complaint originated from an individual. The Supreme Court is currently hearing related cases, including Allahbadia’s petition, which involves accusations of vulgar comments made on a YouTube show. Allahbadia was granted interim protection from arrest by the Supreme Court on February 18th.
