CHENNAI, February 20, 2025 – The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) announced plans to construct a foot overbridge at the Poonamallee Bypass Metro station, part of the Phase II project’s Corridor 4. This corridor, connecting Poonamallee and Light House via T. Nagar, will feature 27 stations. While the Poonamallee-Porur stretch is slated to open later this year, the Poonamallee Bypass station’s construction is facing some delays.
Unlike Phase I stations with four entry/exit points, Phase II stations will have only two. The Porur Bypass station will have just one due to the proximity of Porur lake. Land acquisition issues are delaying the construction of one entry/exit point at the Poonamallee Bypass station.
CMRL officials confirmed that station construction is ongoing, and the foot overbridge project will commence within a couple of months. The overbridge is expected to be completed before December 2025, when the Poonamallee-Porur stretch is scheduled to open. Officials stated the footbridge is crucial to ease commuter access across the busy road.
