Thu Feb 20 20:57:57 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Fourth Woman Chief Minister

**New Delhi** – Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister today at a high-profile ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, becoming the fourth woman to hold the post. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers including Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers from various states, highlighting the significance of the event.

Gupta, a first-time MLA who secured a decisive victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency, was administered the oath of office by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Simultaneously, six other BJP MLAs – Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh – were sworn in as ministers.

The new Chief Minister immediately faced criticism. Former Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP of breaking a key election promise to provide ₹2,500 per month to women in Delhi, a pledge reportedly intended to be implemented in the first cabinet meeting. Gupta responded that her government would set its own agenda. Congress leader Alka Lamba offered congratulations but expressed skepticism about the BJP’s commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River.

Gupta’s first cabinet meeting focused on several key issues. The government announced plans to table 14 CAG reports in the upcoming Delhi Assembly session. Portfolio assignments were also announced, with Parvesh Verma taking on key roles including Public Works Department (PWD) and Water. The cabinet concluded with a symbolic aarti ceremony at the Yamuna River, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing environmental concerns.

Various political figures offered their congratulations, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu. Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Kumar Singh also expressed pride in Gupta, a former student of the university.

The swearing-in marked a significant political shift in Delhi, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rule. The BJP’s victory and subsequent formation of the government promises a period of change in the national capital.
