Fri Feb 21 15:16:03 UTC 2025: ## Telangana’s BRS Blames BJP, Congress for Krishna River Water Crisis
**Hyderabad, February 21, 2025** – The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana has accused the BJP-led central government and the Congress state government of allowing Andhra Pradesh to excessively divert Krishna River water, leading to critically low water levels in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs.
Former BRS minister S. Niranjan Reddy held a press conference in Wanaparthy on Friday, alleging that Andhra Pradesh, aided by the central government, has drawn far beyond its allocated share of Krishna water. He pointed out that despite a surplus of 869 tmc ft of water reaching the sea this year, the joint reservoirs are critically low. Reddy also criticized the Congress government for stalling the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS), stating that only ₹1,000-₹1,200 crore is needed to partially activate the scheme, but the Congress government has failed to allocate funds.
Echoing similar sentiments, former minister G. Jagadish Reddy accused both the BJP and Congress of consistently working against Telangana’s interests, both before and after the state’s formation. He challenged the current Congress ministers to publicly oppose the central and Andhra Pradesh governments instead of targeting the BRS. He highlighted the BRS’s (then TRS) past protest against the expansion of the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, contrasting it with the current Congress ministers’ silence. The BRS contends that the actions of the BJP and Congress have exacerbated the water crisis in Telangana.
