NEW DELHI, February 21, 2025 – Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has unveiled a cabinet carefully balanced to represent the diverse communities that propelled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a landslide victory after 26 years. The six-member cabinet includes representatives from the Jat, Sikh, Punjabi, Dalit, and Purvanchali communities, reflecting the BJP’s strategy to consolidate its support base.
Two ministers, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Singh, hail from the Purvanchali community, which constitutes approximately one-third of Delhi’s electorate. Mishra, a former AAP minister, joined the BJP in 2019, while Singh previously served as a councillor. The cabinet also includes Parvesh Sahib Singh, a prominent Jat leader and son of a former Delhi Chief Minister; Ashish Sood, a Punjabi representing the Janakpuri constituency; and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a prominent Sikh leader and three-time MLA. The BJP’s commitment to inclusive governance is further demonstrated by the appointment of Ravinder Indraj Singh, a Dalit leader, to the cabinet.
The BJP’s success in securing four out of twelve reserved assembly seats underscores the significance of Dalit representation in the new government. The diverse composition of the cabinet suggests the BJP aims to maintain its broad coalition and govern effectively across Delhi’s diverse population.
