Fri Feb 21 05:42:22 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister

**New Delhi:** In a significant political upset, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rule after 27 years. Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh constituency, has been chosen as the new Chief Minister.

The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while the AAP was reduced to 22. Gupta defeated AAP’s Vandana Kumari by a substantial margin of 29,595 votes. Senior BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhanakhad oversaw the selection process for the Chief Minister.

Gupta, a veteran of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), rose through the ranks of student politics, serving as secretary and later president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). While originally from Haryana, she moved to Delhi at the age of two. Her father was a State Bank of India manager, and her husband is a spare parts businessman.

The BJP’s victory marks a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape, ending AAP’s dominance and ushering in a new era under the leadership of Rekha Gupta. Further details regarding her policy initiatives and cabinet appointments are expected in the coming days. A detailed comparison of Gupta’s and Arvind Kejriwal’s assets is also anticipated.
