**Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu (February 20, 2025)** – Tirunelveli district is set to receive 31 new “Mudhalvar Marunthagam” (Chief Minister’s Pharmacy) outlets, offering generic medicines at subsidized rates. This was announced following a review meeting chaired by Sandeep Nanduri, Director of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) and District Monitoring Officer.
The meeting also addressed several other development projects. These include land acquisition for the Tirunelveli west bypass, progress on the Ambasamudram bypass, construction of the Ambasamudram government hospital, and expansions at the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. Plans for a new fish landing center at Kooduthaazhai and Koottapuli were also discussed.
A key focus was the upcoming construction of a flyover at the Kulavanigarpuram manned level-crossing, a long-standing request from the community. Nanduri held discussions to expedite the project’s commencement.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the implementation of various state government initiatives, such as “Mahalir urimai thogai,” “Puthumai penn,” and “Naan mudhalvan” schemes. Progress on petitions received at the Chief Minister’s Special Cell was also assessed.
Nanduri personally inspected several sites slated for the new pharmacies, ensuring adequate preparations and sufficient medicine stocks. District officials, including the District Revenue Officer and Corporation Commissioner, were present at the review meeting. The initiative aims to improve healthcare accessibility for the urban poor, with plans to grant land ownership to those residing on government poramboke lands.
