**Chennai, February 20, 2025** – A sub-inspector and a head constable from the Greater Chennai Police have been suspended following their arrest on bribery charges. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) apprehended G. Lakshmanaperumal and Vijayabasker after they allegedly demanded and accepted a ₹5,000 bribe from a taxi driver.
According to the DVAC, the taxi driver, J. Vincent Selvakumar, was involved in a minor accident in January. Police seized his driving license and vehicle registration certificate. Lakshmanaperumal and Vijayabasker subsequently demanded a bribe for their return.
Selvakumar reported the incident to the DVAC, leading to a sting operation. Vijayabasker accepted the bribe money, resulting in the arrest of both officers. The DVAC has filed a case, and the suspended officers now face investigation.
