Thu Feb 20 07:27:02 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister

**New Delhi:** Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda, along with several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.

Gupta, the BJP’s fourth Delhi Chief Minister and second woman to hold the post, becomes the fourth woman to lead the Delhi government. Her appointment followed a series of meetings by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, chaired by Prime Minister Modi. The decision was delayed for nearly two weeks following the election results, partly due to Modi’s overseas trip.

Six BJP MLAs were also inducted into the cabinet, including Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Verma, initially considered a frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s position, was sworn in second after Gupta. Other cabinet members include Kapil Sharma, Manjinder Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Ravinder Indraj Singh. Three more ministerial positions remain open.

Vijender Gupta, the former Leader of the Opposition, was appointed as the new Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. His appointment is notable given his previous physical removal from the Assembly in 2015 during a dispute with AAP members.

In her first address, Gupta expressed her commitment to serving the people of Delhi with honesty and integrity, and thanked the BJP leadership for their confidence. Her win in the Shalimar Bagh constituency marks a significant shift, as she unseated AAP’s Bandana Kumari, who had held the seat since 2013.
