Thu Feb 20 03:52:35 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Verma Appointed Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister After Stunning Election Victory
**New Delhi** – Parvesh Verma, a prominent BJP leader, has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi following a resounding victory in the recent assembly elections. Verma’s triumph included defeating incumbent Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, earning him the moniker “giant killer.”
While there was speculation Verma might be appointed Chief Minister, the BJP instead chose first-time MLA Rekha Gupta for the top post. However, his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister is widely seen as a reward for his impressive campaign and strong performance.
Verma’s political background is deeply rooted in Delhi’s BJP establishment. He is the son of Sahib Singh Verma, a former Delhi Chief Minister, and his uncle, Azad Singh, also served as Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation. This legacy, combined with his own two terms as a Member of Parliament representing West Delhi (2014-2024), solidified his position within the party. His 2019 Lok Sabha re-election saw a record-breaking victory margin of 578,486 votes.
In the 2025 Assembly elections, Verma’s campaign focused on improving essential services in underserved areas, particularly access to water and electricity. His direct approach – “If you’re getting clean water and zero electricity bills, vote for Kejriwal, but if you’re not, vote for the BJP” – resonated with voters. His platform also included promises of infrastructure development, job creation, tackling pollution, revitalizing the Yamuna riverfront, and providing housing for slum dwellers.
As Deputy Chief Minister, Verma has pledged to continue working towards a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Delhi, prioritizing improvements to the living standards of the poor and creating job opportunities.
