Thu Feb 20 16:40:54 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu to Offer Generous Compensation for Chennai Airport Project
**Chennai, February 20, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government is finalizing a substantial compensation package for those affected by the proposed new Chennai airport in Parandur. The package, expected to be unveiled soon, will exceed the compensation mandated by the 2013 Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act.
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu has confirmed the government’s commitment to providing compensation exceeding market value for the approximately 5,746 acres of land required for the project. While the act stipulates multipliers of one (urban) and one to two (rural) for market value, along with a 100% solatium and 12% additional market value or interest, the state plans to offer a significantly higher amount.
The government has already issued an order for the acquisition of 3,774 acres of patta land. While the remaining land is government-owned, concerns from villagers and anti-project activists remain. The minister previously stated that the government also plans to implement rehabilitation measures to protect the livelihoods of those displaced.
