**VISAKHAPATNAM, February 20, 2025** – Odisha Governor Haribabu Kambhampati has urged the restoration of direct air links between Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar. In letters to Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, and the CEOs of Air India and IndiGo, Governor Kambhampati highlighted the significant economic and strategic benefits of re-establishing this route.
Visakhapatnam, a major industrial and port city, and Bhubaneswar, an emerging IT and educational hub, share a complementary relationship, the Governor stated. He emphasized that improved air connectivity would boost trade and tourism, particularly given Bhubaneswar’s proximity to the famous Sri Jagannath temple in Puri.
Governor Kambhampati suggested specific routes for both airlines. He proposed that Air India consider a Chennai-Kolkata flight with stops in Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar, while noting that IndiGo already operates two daily flights from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata, one of which could include a Bhubaneswar stopover. This, he argued, would efficiently connect four major cities across four states. The Governor recalled that direct flights between the two cities existed previously.
