NEW DELHI – Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister today, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power in the national capital after a 27-year hiatus. The ceremony, held at Ramlila Maidan, also saw six other BJP leaders take the oath as cabinet ministers.
Gupta’s appointment follows the BJP’s victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She won the Shalimar Bagh constituency with a significant margin. While Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, was initially speculated as a potential Chief Minister, the BJP ultimately chose Gupta.
The new cabinet includes prominent BJP figures Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Raj, Ashish Sood, and Pankaj Singh. Gupta becomes the fourth woman to hold the Chief Minister’s post in Delhi.
