**Vijayawada, February 20, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan met with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on Thursday to push for expedited funding and support for the Polavaram irrigation project.
During the meeting, Mr. Naidu urged the central government for swift reimbursement of funds spent on the Polavaram left and right canals. He also requested assistance to complete the project rapidly. Crucially, the Chief Minister sought support for the Polavaram Banakacherla link project, designed to divert 200 TMCFT of floodwater from the Godavari River.
This ambitious link canal aims to bolster Andhra Pradesh’s drought resilience, providing drinking water to 8 million people, irrigating 300,000 hectares of new land, supplementing irrigation for another 914,000 hectares, and supplying 20 TMCFT of water to industries. The project’s completion is expected to significantly impact the state’s water security and agricultural output.
