**Ahmedabad, India** – Indian batsman Shubman Gill has ascended to the number one spot in the ICC ODI batsman rankings, the ICC announced Wednesday. Gill achieved this milestone with a rating of 796 points, surpassing Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who now sits in second place. India’s Rohit Sharma holds the third position with 761 points.

Gill’s recent stellar performance in the three-match ODI series against England propelled him to the top. He scored 87 runs in the first match in Nagpur and 60 in the second in Cuttack. His century in the final match in Ahmedabad, a 112-run knock off 102 balls including 3 sixes and 14 fours, sealed his rise to the top. This was Gill’s seventh ODI century and his 50th ODI match. In his ODI career, he has amassed 2587 runs, including seven centuries and fifteen half-centuries.

India boasts four players in the top 10 ODI batsmen rankings. Besides Gill and Sharma, Virat Kohli is ranked sixth (727 points) and Shreyas Iyer ninth (679 points).

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana has claimed the number one spot in the ODI bowler rankings, overtaking Rashid Khan of Afghanistan. Theekshana’s impressive performance, which included four wickets in the first match of a recent two-match ODI series against Australia, secured his top ranking. In his ODI career spanning 52 matches, he has taken 76 wickets.
