**Bangalore, India –** The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has claimed the top spot in India in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2025, placing within the 201-300 band globally. IISc achieved an overall score between 26.9 and 34.2, sharing the ranking range with IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, which also featured within the 201-300 bracket. Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan rounded out the top four Indian institutions.

Harvard University maintained its dominance, securing the top position for the 14th consecutive year. MIT and Oxford University shared second place, followed by Stanford and Cambridge. Oxford’s high ranking marks a decade-long best for a UK institution, signaling a rise in its global academic prestige.

This year’s ranking incorporated six performance indicators for a more comprehensive assessment of university reputation. Several universities made notable appearances in the top 50, including LMU Munich, KU Leuven, Sorbonne University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of Manchester. Furthermore, Chile, Malaysia, Poland, and Portugal joined the rankings for the first time. The University of Tokyo’s significant jump to 10th place also highlighted the ranking’s dynamism.
