Wed Feb 19 13:54:37 UTC 2025: ## 1,400+ Women-Led Climate Ventures Boosted by EU-Funded Program in India

**Tiruchirappalli, India –** Over 1,451 women-led climate ventures across eight Indian states have been successfully mentored and supported by a European Union-funded program, officials announced Wednesday. The initiative, a collaboration between the Tiruchi Regional Engineering College – Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (TREC-STEP) and the Gender Enabling Network of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GENIE) project, has generated approximately ₹26 crore in turnover in the last 18 months.

The five-year GENIE project leveraged the support of 472 NGOs to train women entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Funding from the European Union enabled the creation of a supportive ecosystem focused on sustainable and environmentally friendly production and marketing.

One success story highlighted is Maushumi Thakurta, founder of Mosh and Daughters Greenfields, which sells premium Ayurvedic wellness products under the ‘Mril-Q’ brand. After recovering from cancer, Ms. Thakurta developed her products and, with TREC-STEP’s support, relocated her business from Jharkhand to Tiruchirappalli. While not yet profitable, Mril-Q is gaining traction, particularly through its online platform.

The program also emphasizes peer-to-peer learning, recognizing the value of shared experience for rural entrepreneurs in sustainable marketing strategies. TREC-STEP intends to continue providing long-term support to these ventures.
