Tue Feb 18 16:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Djokovic Upset in Qatar Return, Loses to Berrettini
**DOHA, Qatar** – Novak Djokovic’s return to the ATP Tour ended in an upset on Tuesday at the Qatar Open. The seven-time Wimbledon champion and 24-time Grand Slam winner lost to Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (4), 6-2 in his first match since retiring from the Australian Open semifinals due to a hamstring injury.
The loss marks Berrettini’s first career victory over Djokovic in five attempts. Djokovic, ranked No. 7, stated that he felt no pain during the match, attributing the defeat to Berrettini’s superior performance and his own less-than-optimal movement. This setback also delays Djokovic’s bid to join the exclusive 100-win club on the ATP Tour, currently held only by Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
Elsewhere in the tournament, second seed Alex de Minaur secured a straightforward victory against Roman Safiullin, winning 6-1, 7-5. Berrettini will next face Tallon Griekspoor in the second round.
