Wed Feb 19 04:07:24 UTC 2025: ## Musk’s xAI Launches Grok-3 Chatbot, Aims to Topple AI Giants
**SAN FRANCISCO** – Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has unveiled Grok-3, its latest chatbot, escalating the ongoing AI arms race. The launch comes hot on the heels of a new open-source model from Chinese AI firm DeepSeek and follows Musk’s aggressive expansion strategy for xAI.
Grok-3 is immediately available to Premium+ subscribers on X (formerly Twitter). xAI is also introducing a new “SuperGrok” subscription tier for mobile app and website users. Musk claims Grok-3 significantly surpasses its predecessor, Grok-2, in performance.
This launch coincides with a recent, rejected $97.4 billion bid by a Musk-led consortium to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit assets. Musk reaffirmed xAI’s commitment to open-source AI, promising to release earlier Grok versions publicly once Grok-3 matures, expected within a few months.
A key feature of Grok-3 is DeepSearch, a reasoning-based smart search engine that explains its thought process. Demonstrated during a livestream, DeepSearch offers research, brainstorming, and data analysis capabilities.
To support its ambitious growth, xAI is reportedly exploring a $10 billion funding round that could value the company at $75 billion. The company is also expanding its data center capacity to train even more advanced models. The move positions xAI for a direct challenge to established players like OpenAI, Google, and DeepSeek in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
