Wed Feb 19 10:29:35 UTC 2025: **UP CM Condemns Misinformation Targeting Maha Kumbh, Rejects Politicization of Stampede**

**Lucknow, February 19, 2025** – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth today defended the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, condemning the spread of misinformation targeting the event, Sanatan Dharma, and the Ganga River. Addressing the state legislative assembly, Adityanath stated that over 56.25 crore devotees had already participated in the Kumbh, and that attacks on the event were an affront to their faith.

He vehemently rejected claims that any specific political group organizes the Maha Kumbh, asserting it is a societal event with the government acting in a supportive role. He highlighted the event’s international participation and success despite negative campaigns.

Addressing the stampede incidents on January 29th, the CM expressed condolences to the victims’ families and criticized attempts to politicize the tragedies. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting affected families.

Adityanath further accused the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party (SP), of consistently opposing the Kumbh and obstructing discussions regarding its preparations. He cited criticism from SP leaders, including their national president’s questioning of Kumbh’s funding and use of what he called “uncivilized” language on social media. He also pointed to negative comments from leaders of the Congress, RJD, and TMC. He defiantly stated that if organizing events related to Sanatan Dharma is a crime, his government will continue to do so. With seven days remaining in the Maha Kumbh, the CM emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and safe conclusion to the event.
