**Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala –** Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of rewriting Indian history to downplay the collaboration of its founding ideologue, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, with British colonial authorities. Speaking at the 35th State Conference of the Students Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday, Vijayan alleged that the RSS is indoctrinating the public with a false narrative that obscures Savarkar’s letters to the British Viceroy expressing a desire for continued colonial rule.
Vijayan highlighted the broad-based and secular nature of the Indian independence movement, emphasizing the participation of people from diverse backgrounds. He contrasted this with what he described as the RSS’s attempt to portray Hindutva forces as the sole driving force, while ignoring the collaboration of figures like Savarkar, who allegedly sought preferential treatment in exchange for support of the British.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern about the RSS’s alleged attempts to saffronize the education sector, urging the state’s progressive student community to resist these efforts. He noted the sacrifices made by SFI activists in confronting the Sangh Parivar, while emphasizing the organization’s commitment to peaceful activism and protecting student interests. The conference, attended by hundreds of SFI students, took place at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
