Wed Feb 19 04:44:18 UTC 2025: ## Injured Elephant Rescued and Transported to Treatment Facility in Kerala

**Thrissur, Kerala –** A team of veterinary experts successfully rescued and transported an injured elephant to a treatment facility on Wednesday morning. The elephant, which had a severe wound on its forehead, was tranquilized at Athirappilly in Thrissur district after a carefully planned operation.

The mission, which began around 6 a.m., involved tranquilizing the elephant, cleaning and medicating the wound, and then guiding it into an animal ambulance with the assistance of three trained elephants. The elephant was then transported to the Kodanad elephant camp for further care.

Chief Veterinary Officer Arun Zachariah described the mission as risky, but highlighted the successful tranquilization and initial treatment provided. The elephant, previously treated on January 24th for the same wound, had unfortunately not fully recovered.

The successful rescue is a testament to the expertise of the veterinary team and underscores the ongoing commitment to the care of Kerala’s wildlife.
