Wed Feb 19 03:08:55 UTC 2025: ## Eight Convicted of Honor Killing in Andhra Pradesh

**Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, February 19, 2025** – A court in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, has delivered a significant verdict in the 2015 murder of Buruga Ratnam Babu, a 22-year-old tractor driver. Eight individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the honor killing, stemming from Babu’s interfaith relationship with a minor girl. Each convict was also fined ₹5,000.

The incident unfolded in Ramakur village, where Babu’s relationship with a 17-year-old girl from the same village was met with disapproval from her family. Despite warnings, the couple continued their relationship. After the girl was sent away by her parents, Babu’s mother sheltered her.

According to police, two of the convicts lured Babu to an isolated field under the pretense of arranging a marriage between him and the girl. Once there, they, along with six others, fatally stabbed him. The body was discovered the following morning.

Following an investigation that included forensic evidence and eyewitness accounts, nine individuals were arrested. The court acquitted one accused due to insufficient evidence. Bapatla district Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi stated that the verdict serves justice and will deter future crimes.
