Wed Feb 19 12:40:00 UTC 2025: **Eagles Release Veteran Offensive Lineman Nick Gates**

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran offensive lineman Nick Gates, the team announced Tuesday. Gates, who was set to become a free agent on March 12th, joined the Eagles last summer. His release comes after he suffered a groin injury during Super Bowl preparations, placing him on Injured Reserve. League rules mandate the release of players on expiring contracts with minor injuries (defined as requiring four weeks or less of recovery time) once they are medically cleared. The move allows Gates to gain an early start on free agency. The Eagles used Gates’ roster spot to activate veteran defensive end Brandon Graham, who has been sidelined since November with a torn triceps. Gates, a seven-year veteran, started 41 regular season and playoff games during his previous stints with the New York Giants and Washington Commanders. He appeared in nine games for the Eagles this season, starting the regular season finale.
