**Toronto, ON** – A Delta regional jet carrying 80 people crash-landed and overturned at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, resulting in 21 injuries, none life-threatening. The CRJ 900 aircraft, operated by Endeavor Air, departed from Minneapolis and experienced a hard landing in snowy conditions, flipping over upon impact. All 76 passengers and four crew members evacuated the burning aircraft.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident, aided by the FAA and NTSB. Investigators have retrieved the flight data and cockpit voice recorders (“black boxes”) for analysis. While the runway was reportedly dry at the time of the incident, preceeding days saw extreme weather, with over 20 inches of snow accumulating between Thursday and Sunday, according to Toronto Pearson President and CEO Deborah Flint. Flint noted that the airport was operating on a recovery day after these severe storms, and that Monday’s weather, while involving blowing snow and strong wind gusts (reaching 40 mph on the ground), was significantly improved compared to the weekend. However, she stressed that it’s premature to speculate on a cause.

Toronto Airport Fire Chief Todd Aitken confirmed the runway was dry at the time of the crash but deferred questions about the presence of snow or slush to investigators. The airport temporarily suspended flights after the incident, resuming operations at 5 p.m. ET Monday. Two runways remain closed.

Nineteen of the injured passengers have been released from hospital, while three remain hospitalized with critical, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Injuries ranged from minor to moderate and included back sprains, head injuries, and symptoms related to fuel exposure.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian expressed gratitude for the first responders and medical teams, and pledged full support for those affected. Flint praised the heroic actions of the flight crew in ensuring passenger safety. The investigation is ongoing.
