Wed Feb 19 12:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP Announces Rekha Gupta as New Chief Minister

**New Delhi, Feb 19** – After a meeting of the Delhi BJP legislature party this evening, Rekha Gupta was announced as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The announcement was made by central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar following a meeting attended by all 48 BJP MLAs, Delhi MPs, and party officials.

Gupta’s victory marks a significant moment, making her the only female Chief Minister in a BJP-ruled state. She secured a landslide victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating Aam Aadmi Party’s Vandana Kumari by a margin of approximately 30,000 votes. Her long-standing involvement in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and her previous roles as North Delhi Mayor and BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary have contributed to her political prominence.

Earlier speculation had included several other names, including Vijender Gupta, but Gupta’s name consistently emerged as a frontrunner. Her family expressed pride and excitement at her appointment.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, February 20th, at 11:00 AM in Ramlila Maidan. The event is expected to draw a large crowd, including prominent BJP leaders and dignitaries. Delhi Police have issued traffic advisories in anticipation of significant road closures and diversions around the venue. While several Chief Ministers and BJP leaders are expected to attend, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be absent due to the state budget presentation. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also be absent due to pre-scheduled engagements.

The new government will consist of a cabinet of six ministers, with no Deputy Chief Minister position. The festive atmosphere surrounding the BJP office following the announcement was palpable, with supporters celebrating with traditional music and dance.
