Wed Feb 19 02:27:00 UTC 2025: **Delhi BJP Set to Swear in New Chief Minister on February 20th at Ramlila Maidan**

NEW DELHI: The suspense surrounding Delhi’s next Chief Minister continues as the BJP gears up for a massive swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on February 20th. While the BJP’s official legislative party meeting to formally elect the new CM is scheduled for February 19th, preparations are already underway, with plans to invite as many as 100,000 Delhi residents. The guest list reportedly includes temple priests and representatives from Delhi’s slum areas – a key voter base for Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This move is seen as a strategic attempt by the BJP to erode Kejriwal’s support base.

The AAP has criticized the BJP for its delay in forming the government, 11 days after the election results. Acting Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of struggling to find a suitable candidate despite winning 48 seats. The BJP has responded with counter-accusations against the AAP.

Meanwhile, the BJP is accelerating the cleaning of the Yamuna river, a move touted as a sign of their commitment to Delhi’s development. However, the AAP has alleged that the BJP is obstructing the project.

The selection process for the new CM is shrouded in secrecy, with high-level meetings involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. BJP leaders have remained tight-lipped about the CM candidate, increasing speculation and criticism from the AAP. The choice of Ramlila Maidan for the swearing-in ceremony is significant, with BJP leaders highlighting its historical importance as the site of major protests against Indira Gandhi’s government in 1975.

Adding to the political drama, a court hearing is scheduled for February 19th concerning AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, who is accused of money laundering. Additionally, President Murmu has approved the prosecution of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on charges brought forth by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Despite the ongoing political maneuvering, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are proceeding apace, with the BJP confident of a successful event and a new era of governance in Delhi.
