**San Jose, Costa Rica –** Costa Rica has agreed to facilitate the repatriation of 200 illegal immigrants currently in the United States, including individuals from India and Central Asia. The first group is expected to arrive in Costa Rica on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, before being returned to their home countries.
The repatriation effort, funded by the United States and overseen by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will see the migrants housed in a temporary care facility in Costa Rica before their onward journey. While the exact number of Indian nationals among the 200 is unspecified, this initiative follows the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US, where immigration was reportedly a topic of discussion with President Donald Trump. This repatriation effort is part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration by the Trump administration; 332 Indians have already been repatriated in three separate batches.
