Wed Feb 19 13:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Broadway Bound: Sutton Foster to Star as Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner’s Daughter Musical
**NEW YORK, NY** – The inspiring life story of country music legend Loretta Lynn is coming to Broadway. A stage musical adaptation of Lynn’s bestselling autobiography, *Coal Miner’s Daughter*, will star two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as the iconic singer. The production, currently in development, will be directed by Sam Gold, with music direction by Jeanine Tesori, the award-winning team behind *Fun Home*.
The musical will feature songs from Lynn’s extensive career and delve into her personal life, expanding beyond the narrative of the 1980 film adaptation. Loretta Lynn’s daughter and manager, Patsy Lynn, will serve as a consulting producer alongside Lynn’s longtime advisor, Nancy Russell. The Lynn family confirmed that Loretta, who passed away in 2022 at age 90, approved of both the project and Foster’s casting before her death.
“We are so grateful to see that our mother’s life story and music will continue to touch the hearts of audiences,” the family stated. They expressed their joy that Loretta had the chance to see the early stages of the production and wholeheartedly endorsed Foster for the role.
The production boasts a star-studded producing team including Broadway veterans Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Bee Carrozzini, and ATG Entertainment. Lynn’s extraordinary journey, from poverty in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, to international superstardom, captivated audiences in her 1976 autobiography and the subsequent Oscar-winning film starring Sissy Spacek. The Broadway adaptation promises a fresh perspective on this remarkable American story. The musical will include many of Lynn’s hits such as “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” and “The Pill”.
