Tue Feb 18 15:47:47 UTC 2025: ## Dead Tiger Found in Shivamogga Reservoir Sparks Concerns

**Shivamogga, Karnataka, February 18, 2025** – The discovery of a dead tiger in the Ambaligola reservoir backwaters near Byrapura in Shivamogga district has raised concerns among wildlife activists. The approximately seven-to-eight-year-old tiger’s carcass was found floating in the water on Monday evening and reported by local residents to the Forest Department.

A post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday by Forest Department officials, including senior officers. K.T. Hanumanthappa, Chief Conservator of Forests of Shivamogga Circle, confirmed the incident, stating that the Sagar Division of Forests handled the procedures.

However, wildlife activist G. Veeresh from Chikkamagaluru has called for a thorough investigation into the tiger’s death. He highlighted that the location is not a known tiger habitat, pointing to a similar incident in Belur taluk recently. Veeresh urged the Forest Department to investigate both deaths to determine the cause. The unusual circumstances surrounding the tiger’s death have prompted calls for greater transparency and scrutiny of the Forest Department’s handling of the situation.
