VISAKHAPATNAM, February 18, 2025 – A team of BJP leaders, led by district president Manthena Murali Parasurama Raju, visited the Mudasarlova site allocated for the construction of the South Coast Railway (SCR) General Manager’s office on Tuesday. The team oversaw soil testing currently underway, a crucial step before construction can begin on the 54-acre plot allocated by the State government.

The tender process for the construction of the Zonal Headquarters office is already underway, according to the BJP. Soil testing is expected to be completed within a week, after which architects will finalize the building design based on the findings. A representative from JJ Associates, the soil testing consultants, confirmed this timeline.

The SCR Zone, headquartered in Visakhapatnam, was announced before the 2019 elections. While the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the GM’s office on January 8th of this year, the project has faced delays. Information obtained via an RTI request confirms that the tender for the Zonal Headquarters construction is in its final stages. While two sites were initially considered, the Mudasarlova site appears to have been selected for the construction. Designs for the SCR building have already been released previously.
