Tue Feb 18 09:22:38 UTC 2025: **Nepali Student’s Death at Odisha Engineering Institute Sparks Outrage**

Bhubaneswar, Odisha – February 18, 2025 – The death of a Nepali student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar has sparked outrage, with the student’s father accusing the institute of mistreating Nepali undergraduates. Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student, was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday.

Sunil Lamsal, the father of the deceased, arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday for his daughter’s post-mortem examination at AIIMS. He alleges that the institute’s alleged mistreatment of Nepali students, including the reported eviction of some from their hostel following Prakriti’s death, contributed to the tragic circumstances. He stated that the institute had invited Nepali students but then failed to treat them properly.

While KIIT authorities have yet to comment, the institute previously suggested that Prakriti’s death may have been a suicide related to a relationship with another student. However, a complaint filed by Prakriti’s cousin alleges blackmail by a male student as a possible contributing factor to her suicide.

The incident has prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Prakriti’s death and the treatment of Nepali students at KIIT. Mr. Lamsal expressed confidence in the Odisha government and police to deliver justice.
