CHENNAI, February 18, 2025 – The Greater Chennai City Police launched 10 modern police booths across the city on Monday, with plans to add 14 more in the coming days. The initiative, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, aims to bolster round-the-clock patrolling, particularly in densely populated areas.
The new booths are equipped with air conditioning, live CCTV feeds, and display boards for public awareness. Twenty-four specialized two-wheelers were also introduced for beat patrolling in the East Zone (Triplicane, Mylapore, and Kilpauk), with two officers working rotating three-shift schedules.
According to Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun, the project’s primary goal is to combat crime against women and children, curb drug peddling, and facilitate quicker apprehension of criminals. The Commissioner stated that the advanced facilities allow officers to constantly monitor their assigned areas. The model is expected to be expanded to other parts of Chennai in the future.
