VIJAYAWADA, Andhra Pradesh (February 18, 2025) – Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has issued a strong warning to officials and leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), promising retribution for alleged harassment of YSRCP members. Reddy made the statement after visiting imprisoned former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi in Vijayawada’s district jail.
Reddy asserted that the YSRCP’s return to power is inevitable and that those who have persecuted party members will be held accountable. He specifically criticized the police, claiming some officers believed they were immune from consequences after retirement. Reddy stated, “The YSRCP government will bring back and punish wherever they hide in the world,” adding that the police should uphold the law and remain impartial.
He went further, threatening that those who targeted YSRCP leaders and workers would face severe consequences upon the YSRCP’s return to power, even suggesting public humiliation. Reddy alleged that the TDP’s targeting of YSRCP leaders, including Vamsi and former minister Kodali Srinivenkateswara Rao, is motivated by a desire to maintain political dominance and prevent rivals from rising. He also predicted that YSRCP leader Devineni Avinash may be the next target.
Reddy claimed Vamsi’s arrest was politically motivated, citing inconsistencies in the case against him. He alleged that the police acted on the behest of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu due to a personal vendetta.
Reddy’s visit to the jail sparked tension, leading to heavy police presence and restrictions around the facility. YSRCP supporters gathered outside, protesting the perceived excessive police measures.
