**New Delhi, February 18, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India granted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia interim protection from arrest on Tuesday in connection with multiple FIRs filed against him in Maharashtra, Assam, and Jaipur for controversial remarks made on the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.” While granting the protection, the court imposed conditions, barring Allahbadia from participating in any shows temporarily and requiring him to surrender his passport to the Thane Police Station. He is also prohibited from leaving the country without prior court permission.
The court’s decision came after Allahbadia approached them citing death threats and harassment, including threats against his mother. The court emphasized that no new FIRs would be registered against him based on the same remarks and that he must cooperate fully with the investigation without his lawyer present at the police station. While granting the interim relief, the Justices expressed strong disapproval of Allahbadia’s comments, deeming them “perverted” and a cause of shame.
The controversy stems from remarks Allahbadia made about parents and sex on Samay Raina’s show. Other individuals named in the FIRs include Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija. The court clarified that the interim protection is contingent upon Allahbadia’s full cooperation with the investigation and asserted that the “law must take its course.” The police had previously reported that Allahbadia was continuously out of contact.
